Canon Powershot A580 8 Megapixel Compact Camera with Powerful Feature
March 27th, 2008 | by CameraBang |

This year, Canon released a twin digital camera model again. Canon Powershot A580 was a twin sibling with A590 IS. It was like the previous Canon A560 and Canon A570 IS who only differ in “IS” label for Image Stabilization. Canon A5xx series seems succeed in delighting its users. In my opinion Canon Powershot A5xx series gives us a balanced composition between money and quality. Well, it’s only my opinion, others may feel different
This compact camera brought several new features too like Easy Mode, enhanced Canon Face Detection, new Red-Eye Correction, and Motion Detection. That’s some pretty cool addition to this Canon Powershot A580 digital camera.
All right, let’s get down to it. Canon Powershot A580 features 8.0 megapixel CCD with 4x Optical Zoom. With that resolution, you can make a 3264 x 2448 resolution image. Canon A580 digital camera also accommodate its users who want to make a wide screen photo in 3,264 x 1,832 resolution
Beginners gonna love this Canon Powershot A580 Easy Mode features. The new Easy Mode in the camera will handles all details in camera control including flash automatically to reduce blur and increasing image’s quality. With this camera Easy Mode, making bright, clear and natural images was just a click away.
The Face Detection feature in this Canon camera has been improved too. The Enhanced Canon Face Detection Technology adds a white balance control on the faces in the scene. With that, the previously included face recognizing, exposure and focus control upon the face will get a boost from the addition of white balance control that calculate the best settings for the possible face skin tones. Canon A580 also support face select and tracking to highlight one face among several faces, and the camera track the movement of that one face you select as they move around.
Canon A560 gives you a Red Eye Correction as you playback your shots. However, A580 digital camera has a step forward by giving you three option for red-eye removal from subjects when you use flashlight in the shots. The three options are:
- You could set the Red-Eye Correction to work on the subjects as the picture is taken by the camera.
- You could set it automatically detect and remove red eyes during image playback.
- You could manually locate and do a Red Eye removal while viewing it in the LCD screen.
Digic III Image Processor will boast superior quality and enhances battery life. This processor is the heart of Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red Eye Correction. Working together with the iSAPS Technology, the scene recognition will be done faster to improve camera focus, speed, accuracy, exposure and white balance.
Another new feature that added to Canon A580 camera is Motion Detection Technology. This feature work to evaluate how fast your subject is moving, and then select the appropriate exposure and ISO settings to keep the sharpness and clarity in the produced images. This feature will help you take your active child running in the backyard, or freezing your a ballerina movements
More feature that I liked in this camera was 2.5″ LCD screen, AA battery, and a viewfinder
For storage media, this digital camera supports MMC, SD, SDHC and HC MMC.

@Faishal
I would choose Canon A590 IS.
If you won’t mind about the size, Kodak Z812 would be better
