Canon Powershot A2000 IS Review the 10 Megapixel A-Series

September 26th, 2009 | by CameraBang |

Canon Powershot A2000 IS was meant as a continuation of the previous A1000, which means a regular Canon point and shoot cameras, with a non fashion bodies like the Canon IXUS 120 for example. This 10 megapixels Canon camera is also brings an 6x Optical Zoom which is quite big in its class, motion detection to help catch moving objects, face detection, and image stabilization.

A2000 design is not as bulky as Canon G-series like G10 or the G11 we waited this October. Eventhough their dimension 4.01 x 2.50 x 1.26 inches may not the slimmest in pocket camera class, but it is not without reason since A2000 can use AA batteries instead of Li-ion Battery. The battery life of this Canon A-Series was quite long too, with a pair of alkaline batteries it can take photos approx 240 shots, that should be enough for a one or two day vacation.

Canon A2000 has fast autofocus, a speedy zoom the picture taken with this camera have decent sharpness. The noise became prominent when you go into ISO 400 modes. But it is a normal thing coming from a camera in this price range, and Canon tends to perform well enough than the other with the same price. The 3.0 inch LCD preview works good too in this A2000, and yes, they don’t have viewfinder unlike Canon G11.

A2000 controls can be operated easily, and since they have minimum manual controls, there is not much to explore either. Unfortunately, this PowerShot camera have low dynamic ranges, so you might need to do some settings adjustment when you want to take a shot in a sunny day or a scene with low lighting.

A2000 drawbacks we noticed is the lack of manual controls normally exist in A-series Powershot, like PASM exposure modes and no wide angle in their 36 – 210 mm lens while many camera in this class already provide it. To conclude in this Canon A2000 IS review, it is a decent pocket camera, even it is not the best. I’d rather buy a newer Canon A2100 or Canon SX120 IS instead of this. But of course, budget is everything, and this camera isn’t bad either for its price.
