A week ago, my best friend who bought Canon Powershot A650 IS told me that he had problems when he take pictures with that 12 megapixel digital camera when he took pictures under sunny skies.

I’m a fan of Canon cameras so I didn’t believe it just like that. So I borrowed his camera and took a few shots. I didn’t use its LCD screen when I took a sample photos. And the picture produced was fine and has nothing uncommon. My friend insisted that he had some problems with the camera, so he left some curiosity in me.

So, I did some search in the internet and finally found the answer. The problem appears when you take shots under sunny skies with Canon A650’s vari angle LCD screen open. The camera have some sort of light leak. Don’t go freaking though, not all Canon Powershot A650 IS have this failure. The problem resides only in A650 IS camera that have a zero (0) number on their fifth digit serial number. They were also a marking near the hinge on the inside of this camera battery cover.

If by any chance, you have this problems too, I’d suggest you to go to the nearest Canon Service Center to correct this problem. You could still normally use the camera if you didn’t open the vari-angle exposing the back of the camera. However, vari-angle was one of what makes this camera interesting. So it would be a waste if you can’t use its vari-angle feature. So… If you’re planning to buy a Canon Powershot A650 IS camera, be sure to check its serial number.

You could find Canon’s notification about this matter here.
